PERISTIWA RENGASDENGKLOK 1. Why did the Rengasdengklok event occur? The Rengasdengklok incident was a kidnapping incident carried out by a number of youths including Soekarni, Wikana, Aidit, and Chaerul Saleh from the “Menteng 31” association against Soekarno and Hatta. The Rengasdengklok incident occurred due to differences of opinion between young and old groups regarding the implementation of the proclamation. The Rengasdengklok incident has something to do with Japan’s defeat in World War II after the atomic bombing by the Allies.
